Royalty -- Amethyst Crystal and Brass Filigree

58.00

Deep dark polished amethyst blades are embraced by brass filigree, the classic architectural angles complimenting the sleek beauty of the stone. Its regal purple color is deep as the darkest wine, mysterious and seductive.

Amethyst is the most valuable species of quartz crystal. It was treasured by ancient Egyptians and Greeks, where it acquired its name: The Greek word "amethystos" means "not-intoxicated," for it was believed that the stone was stained with the wine of the Dionysus (Bacchus) and yet was proudly immune to its charms. Through out history it has been used a talisman for sobriety, grace, and composure. Roman soldiers would carry amethyst amulets into the heat of battle, for it believed to temper the emotions and bolster courage. For the medieval clergy, it represented solemnity, and among royalty it was a symbol of modesty, dignity, and decorum.
